Hello, My name is Kylie Brooks and I am a licensed medical aesthetican in Grand Ledge, MI. I have had the privilege of working almost 9 years in a dermatology setting, performing laser hair removal, brown spot removal, wrinkle and acne treatment. I am a solo esthetician and my goal is to share my knowledge, and experiences of the services I provide to clients and other aestheticians. I think this will a really great place for me to put a lot of what I've learned all in one spot.
This blog will be great for clients getting to know or feeling comfortable with medical aesthetics. As well as other providers or licensed estheticians learning about medical aesthetics.
I am a firm believer that if you look good you feel good, my goal as an aesthetician is to help my clients skin be in the best shape possible. You will gain more confidence and become a more productive person. If you can wear Less makeup, that means you gain more time doing the things you love doing. If you're getting ready for an event, it doesn't have to take as long when your skin is already glowing! You can walk into to that space feeling so great about yourself, you will walk a little taller! Smile a little bigger!
Today I present you:
The three for me Treatment
I am going to tell you all about one of my favorite laser treatments!
The ThreeForMe is a laser treatment that is mult-skin concern treatment. It will address wrinkles, sun damage, and blood vessels in a single session. The ideal client is someone who is fair to medium skin tone, with those 3 concerns.
It's a two-step process that uses a combination of light and laser to target different skin issues. This is the only treatment I provide that combines two intense modalities.
Okay, Step one of the 3 for me treatment. I start by cleansing the skin. Apply a topical anesthetic for twenty minutes, and make it occlusive with a saran warp. Yes, I said saran wrap! Through my research of client comfort, I have found that if you can keep the anesthetic occlusive or damp, the product will not dry and will keep numbing far better and last longer. After about 20 mins, I rinse the numbing and I begin my treatment with intense pulsed light or (IPL) for short. IPL penetrates all levels of the skin without harming its surface meaning no there is down time. IPL treats discoloration, including freckles and brown spots, and blood vessels from sun damage or rosacea and sometimes melasma. IPL is amazing because only a few other light-based machines are effective at reducing broken blood vessels, redness and hyperpigmentation.
A lot of people may not know what IPL is , so lets go over that!
What exactly is IPL?
The IPL system works on the same principles as lasers, in that light energy is absorbed into particular target cells with colo3r (chromophores) in the skin. IPL finds the discoloration in the skin and the light energy is converted to heat energy so it heats the pigment up or heats the vascular lesion, which causes damage to the specific target area. The IPL machine I use covers half and in by half in an inch.
IPL systems are different to lasers because they deliver many wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. Most IPL systems use filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of certain areas. IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it is non invasive and it targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (epidermis). This translates to no down time because the surface skin has not been damaged, you can resume your normal lifestyle, excluding exercise or sweating for 24 hours. Why is that? Because sweat causes heat and heat after IPL can cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation aka more brown discoloration. We don't want that!

Okay next up: 1540 Fractional Laser
Step two uses a fractional Erbium laser, which emits a very thin beam of light to make thousands of microscopic wounds over a fraction of your skin, leaving the rest intact. The intact skin helps jump-start healing, stimulating the production of collagen and new cell turnover to create firmer, smoother skin. This improves fine lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and other surface imperfections.
What is 1540 Fractional erbium laser?
The 1540 is a non-ablative laser that divides up light energy into micro beams that target surface skin cells and the mid layers of skin .Think of the layers of lasagna. This beam will treat to the mid layers of that lasagna. These micro beams create deep narrow columns in the skin to stimulate the body's natural healing response to form new healthy tissue. Now, Imagine a honeycomb, how there is little pockets where the honey sets but there's walls around to project the honey from falling out. This laser beam only treats where the honey sets so not all of the honey comb is affected, the walls are left alone. This laser only treats a portion of the surface area, and leaves untreated skin, to allow faster healing time.
The 1540 fractional laser is an exceptional laser in that it treats both the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin without down time. Think back to the lasagna, this laser beam treats the top and all the way to the middle of the lasagna. Erbium lasers interact with water in the body to intentionally damage the skin cells. This jump-starts the body’s healing processes, increases the production of collagen and elastin, and generally triggers the production of healthy, new skin cells.
After I have performed these two steps, I then provide a cool down and ice the skin for a few minutes. I give my clients post care instructions as well as the ice packs if they need them!
What to expect after your Three for me laser treatment?
Directly after your laser treatment, your skin will feel like a mild sunburn and will be a little puffy. This a normal skin response to the heat from the treatment. The feeling of sunburn will subside about 1-3 hours after your treatment. The puffiness or edema can last 24-48 hours. I have treated all ages with this technique , typically clients heal within one to two days. I also send my client home with post care instructions.
Outcome of the treatment: your skin will be brighter, more even in tone, and tighter. Wrinkles will start to subside about 3-6 months following your treatment as your collagen is remodeling. Its the gift that keeps giving! Each client is different, I generally recommend this treatment case by case, however some clients will find this works best in a series of 3-5 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart.
Now this treatment may not be for everyone, Some factors that might mean this laser treatment isn’t ideal treatment for you may include:
Having a history of cold sores or fever blisters
Taking isotretinoin medication for acne also known as Accutane
Healing or scarring irregularly in the past such as a keloid
Taking aspirin or blood thinners before treatment
Chronic health concerns like diabetes, lupus, and other conditions that impact the immune system and the body’s healing ability
Other heart conditions or equipment
Cancer treatments
So in short words, I combine two technologies into one treatment, to address wrinkles, sun damage and broken capillaries. This treatment is booked for an hour and fifteen minutes in my office. This treatment can be done almost anywhere on the body, not just the face. I have also done this for the neck, chest, hands, and arms.
I hope this has been helpful for you, if you're someone interested in corrective skin treatments! Feel free to check back for more content like this!
